The Varkey Charitable Foundation
OUR STORY
The Varkey Charitable Foundation, Inc. is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization born out of the desire of Varkey Chacko, Ann Varkey, and their three children Susan, Stephen, and Elizabeth along with their families to improve the lives of people around them in the United States, India, and other improvised countries. In 1984, due to the relocation of Varkey's employer, Varkey and Ann moved from New York to Orlando, Florida.
Ann worked as a registered nurse while in New York and the early part of her relocation to Orlando. Later on, she started to work in real estate sales on a part-time basis as they were raising three young children. By God’s grace, she became very successful in real estate sales and today continues in that profession as one of the leading real estate associates in the area.
Both Varkey and Ann are members of the IPC Church, a vibrant and growing full-gospel congregation in the Walt-Disney area with its humble beginnings in their family living room. The church will be celebrating the thirty-five years of its anniversary in October 2022.
After many years of prayer and planning, the young family initially embarked on a small vision that the Lord had planted in their hearts to help the patients of two leprosy colonies in Kerala, one of the southern provinces in India. With that longing, in 1997 the family visited two such colonies with their young children and assisted the patients with cash, clothes, and a few items for daily hygiene.
